100% ORIGINAL EARLY VICTORIAN (1860'S) JET MOURNING NECKPIECE! **HUGE! ** *Estate*
A truly lovely one-of-a-kind mourning broach or neckpiece. I've never seen one so large! It's really almost too large to be considered a mere "broach". I don't know if this is Whitby jet or French jet but it sure is OUTSTANDING.
The full length of the neckpiece is approximately 7 1/2" and the top measures just a hair over 3". It has 4 looping double strands of jet that are centered by a single strand. Each strand has a larger bead at the bottom and is linked to the bar with the linkage covered in the back with fabric (definitely looks original). The pin back and linkage appear to be brass with a little tarnish and has much of the original enamel remaining on the back. There are two small pieces of jet missing from the bar on the right and the simple "C" clasp has small bends. Not noticeable.
PROVENANCE: The family history of this piece is known and will be provided the buyer.
